Things to do in the Dunajec gorge
5 hours from Sromowce Niżne or Kąty to Szczawnica. The limestone walls reach 300 m, and for 17 km the river itself is the Polish-Slovak border. Rafting operates only from 1 April to 31 October, with November to March closed outright, and July-August is the busiest stretch, with queues at the wooden jetties.
Pontoon rafting and kayaks run alongside the traditional rafts for those who want a faster or more active pass through the same gorge. Getting to the start point and back from Szczawnica needs organising in advance, since no car follows the river through the gorge.
