Things to do in Niedzica and Czorsztyn
Niedzica castle, a Polish-Hungarian border fortress built between 1320 and 1326, stands on one shore of Lake Czorsztyn, a reservoir completed in 1995 covering about 11 km2. Across the water are the ruins of Czorsztyn castle, visible from Niedzica's walls but reached by a separate road around the lake.
Nearby, Trzy Korony (982 m) in the Pieniny range has a viewing platform above a 500 m drop, reachable from either Niedzica or Szczawnica on a different trail. This is not the Chochołowska valley, despite the similar-sounding name, and it is not the departure point for Dunajec rafting: the rafts leave from Sromowce, a separate stretch of the Pieniny.
Treat Niedzica-Czorsztyn and the Dunajec gorge as neighbouring sites worth two days, not one afternoon.
