Winter in Zakopane centres on skiing at Kasprowy Wierch, Harenda, Szymoszkowa and Białka's Kotelnica, the Wielka Krokiew FIS World Cup ski jump in January, kulig horse-sleigh rides with a bonfire in the Podhale villages, snowmobile tours where snow cover allows, and the Podhale thermal baths as an après-ski option. Cold and short daylight limit high-mountain routes such as Rysy, and some trails and chains close for safety.
